BLEAK HOUSE by Charles Dickens Classic Fiction Review

All partings foreshadow the great final one.

I read somewhere that Charles Dickens's work is Intense, too elaborate, and so densely packed with peripheral characters that it was hard to keep track of them all. And after reading Bleak House, which is approximately 966 pages long, I can confirm that it is one of the most thorough and well-written novels I have ever read. Despite the fact that this was Charles Dickens' ninth work, it was my first. And based on my previous reading of classics like The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, and others, I anticipated this book to be just as out of touch with reality as the others, but to my astonishment, it wasn't.

Although the novel is set in the judicial system, it is more concerned with obstruction and obfuscation than resolution, and it is thoroughly modern. Charles Dickens depicted the misery and despair of two women, one who has sacrificed her happiness for stability and the other who is plagued by the uneasiness of not knowing who she is, quite brilliantly. When you read The Bleak House, you will feel as if you are a part of the story since the author has captured the scenario, sentiments, and characters in great detail.

The plot is divided into two pieces. The first piece is the tale of Lady Dedlock,   The passages of the book that chronicle her life without breath and those that explain the legal saga of Jarndyce V. Jarndyce are written in third person, using baroque and satiric style.

And I am bored to death with it. Bored to death with this place, bored to death with my life, bored to death with myself.

Esther Summerson, the writer's only female narrator, tells the rest of the story. Esther is yet another of the novelist's fortunate orphans; when her guardian dies, a lawyer steps in and sends her to live with John Jarndyce, who may or may not be a beneficiary of the novelist's never-ending case of dueling wills. Esther a straightforward, no-frills tool that does precisely what it should.

The universe makes rather an indifferent parent, I'm afraid

As I mentioned before, the novel is quite modern as there were so many things in there that I related to it, and that hit right at home.

When you read The Bleak House, you will feel as if you are a part of the story since the author has captured the scenario, sentiments, and characters in great detail.
Constancy in love is a good thing; but it means nothing, and is nothing, without constancy in every kind of effort.

If you do decide to read this book, be quite prepared for a lifetime of reading.
